Lions for Lambs-Rated R

This movie is a political drama starring Robert Redford, Meryl Streep, and Tom Cruise.  It takes you back and fourth through three separate conversations- each connecting to form a very moving film.

A U.S. Senator (Cruise) asks one specific reporter (Meryl Streep) to a private meeting to discuss a new secret plan that is underway in Afghanistan while the interview is taking place.  Both are discussing their very different points of view on the war.

We are taken to California, where a Political Science Professor -(Redford)- tries to motivate one of his gifted, disheartened, students to come to class more often and take an active role in world politics.  All the while two U.S. soldiers are in the mountains of Afghanistan fighting for their lives and their country.

This is a film that looks at many different points of view of war and how everyone is affected. I thought the way this film was done was great,  but I did find that some of the conversations seemed to be preachy.  If you like movies that get you thinking and create debate this a definite movie to put on your must-watch-list.  Rent it now on DVD at your local video store or find it at a Blockbuster near you.

Life’s A Beach by: Claire Cook

Ginger Welsh is a 41yr old women who quits her sales job to move back home - to live above her parents garage (Which her parents are planning on selling) to pursue her dream of making jewelry.  Her sister Geri is about to turn 50 and is all-consumed with planning her birthday bash. When Geri’s youngest son, Riley, gets a role in a local horror film; Geri asks Ginger to accompany Riley everyday while filming. What happens along the way is a lot of fun in the sun and light breezy laughs.  Definitely a great summer read.  Ask for it now at your local library. *The library can get any book upon request so don’t hesitate to ask*.

Featured Artist:  Reverend Al Green - Lay It Down

Al Green and his soulful voice are back in this 11 track CD with the help of some other great artists such as John Legend, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Anthony Hamilton - just to name a few.  This CD has the 1970’s feel of love and fun that will forever be Al Green. Some of my favorite songs are: You’ve got the love I need, Take your time, and Stay with me (by the sea).  If you are an Al Green fan, like me, this is a must have for your collection.  Find it now at a Best Buy near you --Enjoy-
